Girl: No.
Me: Okay, but I think I know you from somewhere. You look really familiar.
Girl: Oh, thank you.
Me in my brain: what? I am sorry for the confusion but that was not a compliment.

okay but in the girl's defense, my most awkward moments are when people are like, "CAROLYN! you look juuuust like my sister-in-law!" like....what do you SAY to that?! usually it goes a little something like this: [me staring at them] [me smiling at them like, "what exactly are you expecting me to say to that?"] me saying: "oh. okay?" what i really want to say is, "oh, is your sister-in-law the most lovely and graceful being ever to alight on this planet? because if so then, wow, thank you." but i'm afraid social propriety occludes me from such responses.
ReplyDeleteI think the most appropriate response to that would be, "Oh, really? Well, I bet she can't pull it off as good as I do."
