Culture clash

I was talking to my Spanyard about last night. "We had friends come over last night," she said, "but they left really early." I thought, "oh, okay, they went to bed early because they didn't have anything to do." Then she caught me by surprise : "Yeah, they left really early, at like 6 this morning. . ." I should have guessed.

We saw a Turkish woman today that is the smallest thing I have every seen. She just kept talking and talking about her childhood in a convent because her parents both died. She remembers the war against the Greeks (I am sure there are many) when they were chased from the country.

I also spent some time with a sad woman going through tabacco withdrawls. She just lay in a heap of tears on her bed because she hadn't smoked in a while. She just repeated the same thing, "I want to smoke, I want to smoke. . ." It wasn't pretty. I am disgusted that France can't take control of the dammage cigarettes are doing to these people. Everywhere I go, I am in a cloud of smoke, their teeth are rotting away, and then there are people like Maryse. Cut it out!
