Bag of Miracles

I have been sick this week. Twice. First a stomach virus, then a flu. And on top of it all, I had to take two tests this week. As I sat in the testing center listening to my stomach growl, the persperation on my forehead collecting as I do countless problems on organic chemistry, I gleaned every bit of energy and hope from a small bag of messages of hope. Yes, a bag of Halls cough drops. Little did I know as I went into the testing center that each wrapper has something magnificent inscribed on it. Things such as, "Put your game face on," "You've seen worse," and "This is your time to shine." In my desperate state, those little messages saved me. And after 3 hours in the testing center, I came out conquerer - thanks to Halls.

A Psalm to Fall

A beautiful fall day. I woke up and did laps in the pool. The sun was just barely coming over the mountains and it warmed my skin lightly, a contrast to the cool water of morning. The air is clear and crisp. The mountains, though mostly still green, have that beautiful popcorn effect of deep reds and soft yellows. People are wearing shorts and sandals. My roommates are going on a date. My friends are going on a nature walk in the canyon - I am sure it is magnificent.

And I am spending the whole day in HBLL with my french books and my chemical reactions. There is no greater tragedy than this.

Welcome to the Club

The other day I was feeling pretty slick. I was wearing my pointy shoes, fitted shirt, skinny tie. . . What surprised me, however, was how blatantly people were checking out my style. And it wasn't who I would have expected.
Whenever I would walk by another guy that seemed inclined to such things as fashion, I could see him look me up and down. Not weird, just a brief glance, then if we ever met eyes, he gave me a little head nod that to me seemed to say, "nice job." Whether or not we had a similar style, I somehow felt initiated into an unofficial fraternity on campus.

Pictures of a long forgotten past

I recently uploaded some pictures that had been on my camera for almost a month and a half. Some of these I had already forgotten with the craziness of my fall semester. I'm glad I got to revisit some of these cherished moments. The first 3 are in Brittany, the cow pasture is just outside Paris, and then of course a New York rainstorm.

Supression

I am being suppressed by schoolwork. I am in turn suppressing my emotions. A sick circle. My friend reminded me that when I am stressed I need to isolate those emotions involved with my stress, so I can deal with those emotions individually and not as some unconquerable sum. I told him that I don't know what my emotions are because if I let them run free, I would have a nervous breakdown, so instead I become a. homework. robot. Today I got a call that my rent was overdue and I had a 20 $ late fee as of today. I left my chemistry lab with a chemical boiling on my stove and ran to the bank to get a money order, because I didn't have time after lab because I had to finish/turn in my biochemistry homework. The teller was quite impressed with my dedication.
On another note, I am excited about fall. The rain and slight wind makes me think of scarves and umbrellas, walks in cool breezes, hot chocolate and beautiful colors. We always look at spring as being the "new beginning" but for me, I find a new beginning in each turn of the seasons. And I am definitely in need of a change.
I think as a tender mercy, as I was walking from place to place tonight, I kept running into people I hadn't seen or talked to in a while. Laurel and the half conversation, Louise meeting my mom, Sunny giving me directions, and Dani encouraging me to snag a brownie. Thanks guys.
