strike me down

i saw the nicest person i know today. unfortunately, they are currently walking in crutches from a rare disease. i walked over to chat with them for a brief moment, and during our conversation, i realized they had something big going on - so i wished them good luck, naturally. what i added after that, to my own horror, came out with out knowledge of what i was saying: "break a leg!"

i walked away stunned and embarrassed at what had just happened, half expecting to be struck down that instant. i only hope there is forgiveness in the cosmos for my wretched soul.
